Divalent Cation-Mediated Polyanion Attraction in Aqueous Solution

Explains why calcium and other multivalent ions cause charged polymers to precipitate out of solution, and proposes design rules for polymers that resist this failure mode. Applies enhanced-sampling molecular dynamics to compute the effective interaction between polymer chains across varying salt concentration, temperature, and monomer chemistry.
